Special Valentine's Day Public Reception
Second Saturday, February 14th, 5 - 8pm
Bank of America is proud to be one of the nation’s leading sponsors of culture and the arts. Their support is predicated on two basic beliefs: that the arts stimulate creativity and understanding, and that cultural institutions are essential components of thriving communities. Bank of America has a long history of supporting museums, and is one of the oldest and largest corporate art collections in the world, reflecting the diversity of artistic expression in America and internationally. African American Currents: Contemporary Art from the Bank of America Collection, showcases work from its holdings by some of the leading artists of the African Diaspora.
There are over seventy artworks in African American Currents, ranging from paintings and sculptures to photography, prints and mixed media collages. The exhibit is a blend of modern masters such as Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence, with contemporary masters as Martin Puryear, Willie Birch, Faith Ringgold and Raymond Saunders; works by artists working outside the mainstream like Minnie Evans and Horace Pippin; and a representation by a younger generation of artists, including Whitfield Lovell, Kevin Cole, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Lorna Simpson.
African American Currents is organized by the 40 Acres Art Gallery in collaboration with Bank of America Corporation. All rights reserved.
