The Many Faces of Beverly McIver An exhibition of paintings by nationally recognized artist Beverly McIver begins the 2004-2005 exhibition season. The exhibit will feature over thirty paintings, showcasing McIver’s best work from the last ten years. Self-definition and self-acceptance are central themes in McIver’s paintings, which address issues of identity, race, and stereotypes and challenge the viewer with provocative imagery. Accompanying the exhibit are drawings by 4th and 5th grade students attending St. HOPE’s PS7 charter school, created in response to workshops exploring McIver’s work. A 32-page color catalogue is available for purchase. The artist will be present at the October 9th reception, and will provide a short discussion about her work at 7pm. The film screening is part of 40 Acres’ on-going series, “Art and a Film,” which pairs its Second Saturday Art Walk with a film about arts and culture. A 36-page catalogue is available for purchase.
