Cathleen Lewis: You Can't C Me

October 21 - December 30, 2006

Opening Reception: October 21, 2006, 5pm

The 40 Acres Art Gallery is delighted to present for the first time in California a solo exhibition of Cathleen’s Lewis' work, which explores themes of identity, race and class. Lewis frequently explores the use of the language that identifies race in our culture, such as the signs and coding connected with such terms as “black” and “white.” included in the exhibition is an installation that derives from Ralph Ellison's modern class, Invisible Man.

Also on display will be work created by Sac High photography students, created in response to a summer project that included reading and interpreting for themselves Invisible Man.

A 32-page soft-bound catalogue, complete with essays by Los Angeles author Lisa Teasley and 40 Acres director Kim Curry-Evans, will be available for purchase.
