JAZZ: The Photographs of Chuck Stewart is unforgettable portraiture of jazz legends and an opporutunity to attain a greater appreciation for a musical art form that is uniquely American, with roots in blues, Eropean light classical music, ragtime and western African folk traditions.

For over fifty years, Chuck Stewart worked within the jazz music industry, photgoraphing artists for literally thousands of album covers and jackets. The images, which often are our only glimpse into the privileged work of music studios and concerts backstage, are timeless and iconic.

Chuck Stewart's photographs and album covers can be seen throughout the 40 Acres Art Gallery, underground books, and Uncle Jed's Cut Hut.

Also on view are student work by 4th and 5th graders from PS7 Elementary School, created in response to workshops about jazz.

We are please to partner with Sacramento State University's Jazz Studies Program, which will be offering jazz workshops and performances at 40 Acres that focus on the music of the artists represented in the exhibit.

Accompanying the exhibit is ia sixty-page soft-bound exhibition catalogue.
