Whispers of the Past
brings together pivotal works from the nationally-acclaimed artist’s career, including Baby Jack Rice Story and made in usa: Angel Island Shhh, as well as new work created specifically for this exhibit. The new work is representative of a larger collaborative project with the Sacramento Philharmonic, who is commissioning San Francisco musicians Jon Jang and Gang Situ to compose a new work that will be performed during the Philharmonic's tenth-anniversary season in 2006-2007. Titled, Gold Mountain, the collaboration is a year-long project that showcases the achievements of the Chinese in California. Wong's exhibition will include works of art that profile such individuals as Frank Fat and Dr. Edna Mae Fong, who have made significant contributions in the Sacramento and Delta, California regions. Also on display will be work created by PS7 elementary school students, created in response to a summer residency with the artist.

A related exhibition by Sacramento watercolor artist David Lobenberg, profiling residents of the historic community of Locke, California, will be concurrently on display at 40 Acres' underground books.

A 60-page hard-bound catalogue, complete with essays by Dr. Melanie Herzog of Edgewood College, Madison, Wisconsin and 40 Acres director Kim Curry-Evans, images of the artwork, and narratives of the Gold Mountain participants will be available for purchase.
