The Best of Sac High Student Exhibit

May 8 - June 20, 2004

The Best of Sac High Student Art Exhibit will showcase a juried competition of nearly fifty works of art, focusing on the best works produced over the course of this school year from all grades. Judges included former 40 Acres Art Gallery artist-in-residence Milton Bowens, Sacramento High’s School of the Arts principal Allen Young, and 40 Acres Art Gallery director Kim Curry-Evans. The Best of Sac High represents a diverse range of artistic media, including drawings, photographs, paintings, ceramics and sculpture.

Criteria for exhibit selection included: demonstrated ability in use of medium; clarity in conveying concept; and overall strength of presentation. Exceptional work will also receive special recognition in two-dimensional and three-dimensional categories, as well as awards for “Best in Show,” “Director’s Choice,” “Artist Choice,” “Principal’s Choice,” and the “Renaissance Award.” Awards will remain secret until their announcement at the exhibition’s Second Saturday opening on May 8, 2004 at 6pm.

Following the reception will be a 9pm showing of the film, You Got Served (PG-13) at the Guild Theater ($5.00 general admission.) The film screening is part of 40 Acres’ on-going series, “Art and a Film,” which pairs its Second Saturday Art Walk with a film about arts and culture. You Got Served, starring B2K’s Omarion and Marques Houston, is a youthful, contemporary look at an urban art form, battle dancing.
