Dr. Patricia Turner will provide an informative lecture on her research for the recently published Crafted Lives: Stories and Studies of African American Quilters, which was the inspiration for the Amazing Wonders exhibit.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION - An Evening with Faith Ringgold

Join us for a very special evening with internationally-acclaimed and award-winning artist, author and activist Faith Ringgold, presented in conjunction with the exhibition, Amazing Wonders—Quilts by African Americans in the Northern California Region. Following the presentation will be a reception and book-signing with the artist at the 40 Acres Art Gallery.

Presented by the Sacramento Chapter of the Links, Inc., with additional support from Sierra Health Foundation, Chet and Laura Hewitt, and Sigma Pi Phi

Quilting Bee! A day-long family celebration through hands-on lessons with quilters from the exihbit
40 Acres, Free

40 Acres will be home for a day-long, free, quilting workshop for all ages, hosted by local guilds and regional quilters. Quilting “kits” will be provided for each who visits, along with hands-on instruction from the quilters on how to get started! The workshop will give everyone, young and old, an opportunity to come together to learn and experience the art form of quiltmaking.

The Women of Gee’s Bend, A documentary film screening

This award-winning film aired nationally on PBS in 2005. It documents the lives of a group of African-American women from Alabama's Black Belt region, who see their lives radically changed as their artwork is suddenly recognized and embraced by the elite American museum world.
